Welcome To The Digital Workplace

Enterprise visual communications solutions create a new way to work

The traditional office space is quickly disappearing, and in its wake is a horizon paved with a profusion of personal devices, new collaboration tools, and any-screen communications transforming organizations into digital workplaces. As more organizations transform both processes and devices, corporate communicators are realizing that traditional communications methods, such as email, are no longer effective for engaging staff. Employees are burdened with information overload and a continuous flow of messages trickling into their inboxes and onto their desktops and handheld devices. Breaking through the clutter has become a major challenge for companies — especially during enterprise-wide efforts such as rebranding projects, restructuring, or management changes where buy-ins from staff members play an essential role in ensuring success.

A new wave of tools is allowing organizations to turn data-rich content into dynamic, highly visual channels of information that can be delivered to multiple devices and display screens. The channel concept is borrowed from the world of television, where there are many channels, each catering to different audiences. In the enterprise, channels are focused on certain topics of interest dedicated to particular departments with the goal of engaging targeted stakeholders on any screen, anywhere, anytime.

Every Screen Communications

In order to successfully reach and engage with employees in the digital workplace, enterprises should deploy a channel-based visual communications platform that easily manages and delivers media-rich content in the following areas:

• The Connected Desktop enables users to view and interact with channels and content widgets directly from their desktops or laptops. Specific use cases may include company news channels, key performance indicator (KPI) dashboards, interactive polls, and live alerts.

• The Connected Workplace promotes communications in real time through connected screens and devices found throughout a facility such as digital signage screens, interactive touchscreens, video walls, IP phones, or wearable devices.

• The Connected Workforce enables organizations to share real-time content with a global community of connected users and remote workers through mobile devices, cross-campus digital signage networks, and online communication tools.

Combining internal data sources and external information sources provides context to the data, enabling faster and more informed decision-making.

What Is Channel Content?

Channels cantake advantage of existing content and data sources, making them quick to build and distribute visual communications to any screen. More importantly, because they’re linked to real-time data sources both inside and outside the company, they are always up to date and current. Typical corporate channels include company-wide or department-focused news channels; real-time KPI dashboards; production line visualization; training and development channels; and much more. Channels can have both interactive and passive elements, with RFID or QR codes that transfer the user experience to mobile devices.

A human resources channel, for example, can broadcast new workplace policies, wellness information, or upcoming company events. Channels can also include external information relevant to the company, pulling video and data from multiple live sources like social media, that give employees further context.

Business intelligence dashboards have also become popular for enterprise visual communications deployments. Designed to better organize and present big data, dashboards collect information from internal and external sources and dynamically present data to decision-makers using graphics such as tickers, maps, and charts. Combining internal data sources and external information sources provides context to the data, enabling faster and more informed decision-making. Dashboards provide a friendlier and more effective way to monitor KPIs. To support the need for employees to work anytime, anywhere, organizations can also display dashboards on desktops and mobile phones, and even share them with remote workers across the globe.

Reaffirming The Corporate Culture

By leveraging today’s visual communications technology, companies are able to create a strong corporate voice that pierces through the clutter of everyday information. Every screen potentially becomes a way of delivering and interacting with content, providing unprecedented opportunities to collaborate, mentor, share knowledge, and focus resources. It also increases trust, reinforces commitment, and empowers organizations to more easily adapt to continuously changing business environments. Facilitated by intuitive content management software, visual communications infrastructures are effectively removing filters between employees and decision-makers, allowing communications staff to deliver information simply and effectively – whether it’s text, images, video, or visualized data– resulting in increased productivity, brand building and awareness, and bolstered corporate culture.
